Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-06-10
The short version
Marklight stores your highlights and notes in your browser's local storage on your device. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share any of your data. There are no analytics, no trackers, and no Marklight servers.
What Marklight stores, and where
When you highlight text, Marklight saves the highlighted text, your note,
the page URL and title, and a timestamp — using Chrome's
chrome.storage.local API, on your device only. Backups you
export are files you download and control.
What Marklight never does
- No account, sign-up, or login.
- No reading or transmitting of page content beyond what you highlight.
- No analytics, telemetry, fingerprinting, or advertising.
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties.
Payments (Marklight Pro)
If you purchase Pro, payment is processed by ExtensionPay and Stripe. Marklight receives only a paid/unpaid status; your payment details are handled by Stripe under their privacy policies. This is the only situation in which the extension communicates with any server.
Permissions explained
- Access to websites: required to restore your saved highlights automatically when you revisit a page. Page data is processed locally and never transmitted.
- Storage: holds your highlights on your device.
- Context menus: the right-click "Highlight selection" item.
