Highlight the web. Keep it forever.

Marklight is a Chrome highlighter that saves your highlights and notes on your device — no account, no subscription, no AI upsell. If a page changes, your highlight is kept and flagged, never silently deleted.

Built around one promise: you never lose a note

Local-first

Highlights live in your browser's storage. Nothing is uploaded. There is no server to shut down.

Change-proof

When a page's text changes, Marklight keeps your highlight and marks it "page changed" — the data is never dropped.

Backup you own

One click exports a JSON backup. Restore merges it back — even after a reinstall.

Markdown out

Copy any page's highlights as clean Markdown. Pro exports your whole library, ready for Notion and Obsidian.

FAQ

Is it really free?
Highlighting, notes, search, per-page Markdown export, and backups are free forever. Pro ($19 one-time) adds whole-library export in Notion/Obsidian-ready formats.
Do I need an account?
No. Install it and highlight five seconds later. Payment for Pro is handled by ExtensionPay; that's the only time anything talks to a server.
What happens to my highlights if I uninstall?
Download a backup first (one click) and restore it any time. We're working on making this automatic.
Which browsers?
Chrome and Chromium browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc) today. Firefox is planned.
